Intermittent fasting is a style of eating where a person alternates between periods of fasting (where they are consuming little to no Calories) and non-fasting or eating normally.

The only proven way to reduce belly fat is by following a calorie restricted diet and an exercise program and since, Intermittent fasting is an easy and effective method of reducing calorie intake this makes it an ideal style of eating for fat loss, weight loss and even weight management.

The practice of intermittent fasting can take many different shapes and forms. From fasting for 16 hours every single day, to every-other- day intermittent fasting where you fast on and off for 24 hour periods and finally to the Eat Stop Eat style of Flexible Intermittent Fasting where you fast for a 24 hour period once or twice per week.

All forms of intermittent fasting are highly effective ways to control your weight and to lose body fat, as long as calorie intake is not greatly increased during the times when you are not fasting.

During the first few hour after you eat your body first burns calories form the food you have recently eaten. Once you get into a true fasted state these calories run out and your body turns to your body fat stores as a fuel source, burning your fat stores as a fuel thus helping you lose body fat.

Despite what you may read in some nutrition and fitness magazines, when done properly intermittent fasting will not cause you to lose muscle mass or cause your metabolism (your bodies ability to burn calories) to slow down.

Intermittent fasting is currently being studied for its role in cancer prevention and life extension as well as a treatment for diabetes and metabolic syndrome. These studies are on-going; however early results have led researchers to be optimistic of the health benefits of Intermittent fasting that go beyond simply weight loss.

When it comes to weight loss success using intermittent fasting the key is to find the easiest, most flexible form of intermittent fasting that fits into your own personal lifestyle and that works best for you.

Remember all diets will work, but the diet that you can stay on the longest while enjoying the foods you like will be the diet that allows for long-term weight loss success.
